From Content to Realisation

I design temporary and permanent exhibitions and collection displays – from initial analysis through concept development and design to final realisation.

Depending on the brief, I support the entire process or take responsibility for clearly defined areas. The scope of work is tailored to the curatorial intent, the objects, the architecture and the specific conditions of each project.

Conservation, technical, organisational and commercial parameters are incorporated into the planning process from the outset. This allows design decisions to be assessed at an early stage in terms of their impact, feasibility and implementation.

Consultation and Analysis

I clarify the content, objectives, target audiences and project conditions. Together with you, we identify design opportunities, establish priorities and define a realistic scope of work.

The requirements of the objects are weighed alongside the possibilities offered by the space, budget, schedule and intended method of delivery.

Concept Development and Design

I translate curatorial content into spatial dramaturgy and develop the design elements this requires:

• Exhibition architecture, wayfinding and visitor circulation
• Colour, material and lighting concepts
• Object placement, plinths and museum display cases
• Exhibition graphics, wall design and signage
• Design and typesetting of gallery texts, object labels and wayfinding information
• Media, interactive and hands-on elements
• Posters, catalogues and other communication media

Design, function and interpretation are considered as interconnected elements. From the overall floor plan to the smallest typographic detail, every element follows a coherent conceptual vision.

Planning, Coordination and Realisation

I develop the designs into viable, deliverable solutions – in close coordination with curators, conservators, architects, lighting and media planners, fabricators, contractors and other project stakeholders.

The aim is that the design concept achieves its intended effect in its realised form.

Upon request, I oversee and coordinate design implementation. Selected elements, finishes and prototypes can also be developed and realised in-house. This keeps conceptual intent, design quality and technical execution closely aligned.

I work within existing project structures and collaborate with my clients’ trusted delivery partners.

Bespoke Development

When off-the-shelf products or established methods do not meet the requirements of a project, I develop the necessary design or technical means myself.

This expertise ranges from project-specific display solutions and custom surface treatments to historical reconstructions and media applications. Selected examples and insights into the development process are presented in the Creative Lab.
